William G. Butler was an important figure to Texas, not simply because of his active role in trail driving, but also because of his taking a stand for knowledge, freedom, and justice in the town of Helena, Texas during the 1800’s. He was born in a family with 12 siblings on June 14, 1831 in Mississippi. During his life, he would marry Adeline Burris, and have 8 children. He would also serve in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, and become a prominent cattle driver, in addition to his role in the death of the Texas town, Helena.
